The short version
MenuMatch stores what you tell it about how you eat, the menus you scan, the recommendations you get, and the meals you log. That data is yours: it is scoped to your account, it is not sold, and it is not shared with other users.
What we store
- Your account: name, email address, and a hashed password. We never store your password itself.
- Your taste profile: dietary preferences, allergies, disliked ingredients, cuisine likes and dislikes, spice tolerance, budget range and nutrition goals.
- Menus you scan, search for, or paste, and the dishes we read from them.
- Recommendations we generate, and your feedback on them.
- Dishes you save, meals you log, and macro estimates you keep.
- Diners you add for group mode — their constraints, stored under your account.
Photographs
Photos of menus and meals are used for one purpose: reading the food or the menu in them. They are stored privately, outside any publicly reachable location, and are served only to you, through an authenticated request that checks you own the file. They are never listed publicly and never shown to other users.
You can delete any uploaded image at any time from Profile → Your uploaded images. Deleting removes both the file and its record.
We validate that uploads are genuine images and cap their size. We do not log the contents of images, and we do not log the contents of AI requests or responses.
AI providers
Depending on configuration, MenuMatch may send menu text, meal descriptions, menu or meal photographs, and a summary of your dietary preferences to an AI provider (Anthropic or OpenAI) in order to read a menu or estimate nutrition. Nothing is sent from your browser directly: every such request is made server-side.
When no provider is configured, MenuMatch runs entirely on its built-in local engine and no data leaves the server at all.
Your control
- Edit or clear any part of your profile from Profile & settings.
- Delete uploaded images individually.
- Remove saved dishes, logged meals and diners at any time.
Health information
MenuMatch does not diagnose, treat or cure any condition, and does not provide medical or nutrition advice. Eating preferences such as "anti-inflammatory" are treated as preferences, not treatments.
Allergen flags are best-effort and are not a guarantee. Dietary labels can miss ingredients, and shared kitchens carry cross-contamination risk. If you have a serious allergy, always confirm ingredients directly with the restaurant before ordering.
